Coal Fired Power Plant of Cirebon Power Utilizes Ecofriendly Technology

Kontan.co.id (4/5/2018) | The Cirebon I and II expansion units of the coal fired power plant (PLTU) use environmentally friendly technology. With this technology the efficiency of coal consumption has increased by 3%. Even the coal combustion material is absorbed by the cement industry.

President Director of PT Cirebon Energi Prasarana Heru Dewanto said that the Cirebon I PLTU has been operating since 2012. The 660 megawatt (MW) power plant uses super critical technology.

“We are the pioneers of clean plants. The only operating plants that use super critical are Paiton and Cirebon Power,” Heru said in Jakarta, Friday (04/5).

Heru said that Cirebon II PLTU will use ultra-super critical technology. The latest technology from electricity generation is able to increase the efficiency of coal consumption up to 3%. The 1,000 MW power plant requires coal reaching 3.2 million tons / year. The coal used is low calories or 4,500 kcal / kg.

“Cirebon I coal fired power plant has the same calorie as 2.3 million tons per year,” he said.

According to Heru, coal-fired power plants are often highlighted related to the problem of residual combustion or so-called fly ash and bottom ash. But with this super critical technology, there is no residual combustion. The reason is the residual combustion is immediately accommodated in one container and then absorbed by the cement industry.

“So, there is no coal ash. That chimney has no smoke. The steam just comes out,” said Heru.
