PT Cirebon Energi Prasarana and PT PLN (Persero) have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to jointly conduct a Decarbonization Study for the Cirebon Expansion Coal-Fired Power Plant (Java-1) 1x1000MW. The MOU was signed by Mr. Hisahiro Takeuchi, President Director of PT Cirebon Energi Prasarana, and Mr. Evy Haryadi, Director of Technology, Engineering, and Sustainability of PT PLN (Persero), in the presence of Mr. Yuliot Tanjung, Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources of Indonesia, and Mr. Muto Yoji, Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry of Japan.
This MOU aims to explore and assess pathways for decarbonizing the Cirebon Expansion Coal-Fired Power Plant over the next two years, including potential technologies and strategies to support Indonesia’s energy transition. The signing took place during the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) Ministerial Meeting held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. AZEC is a regional cooperation framework initiated by the Prime Minister of Japan to promote decarbonization and sustainable energy transition across in Asia.
The third Ministerial Meeting of AZEC gathered energy ministers from Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, reaffirming their collective commitment to accelerate joint efforts toward a low-carbon future under the AZEC framework.
