PT Cirebon Electric Power recently won the “Best Practices of Clean Coal Use Technology in Power Generation (Power Plant)” prize in the ASEAN Coal Awards 2013. The company won the category for its attempts to utilize (1) supercritical technology in improving cycle efficiency, which results in lower coal consumption and reduced emissions to the atmosphere (2) the plant’s coal yard and ash handling system in minimizing environmental pollution and maximizing efficient use of coal by utilizing ash for other purposes (3) the sea water discharged handling with cooling tower in minimizing its impacts to the environment and (4) its social development and advancement activities, which benefits local community, livelihood projects, financial assistance, health and educational programmes as well as providing social and economic opportunities to local communities.
The Asean Coal Award is part of The Asean Energy Awards 2013 organized by the Asean Centre for Energy (ACE). ACE is an intergovernmental organization established by Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. It is guided by Governing Council composed of Senior Officials on energy of the ASEAN Countries and a representative from the ASEAN Secretariat. ACE’s mission is to accelerate integration of energy strategies within ASEAN by providing relevant information on state-of-the-art technology and expertise in order to ensure that over the long run, necessary energy development policies and programmes are in line wilth economic growth and environmental sustainability of the region.
