The new unit is scheduled to begin commercial operations in 2022.

Enerdata reported that Toshiba and Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS) have started construction works on the ultra-supercritical (USC) coal-fired power expansion project at Cirebon (West Java) in Indonesia.

MHPS will build the facility on a full-turnkey basis in partnership with Hyundai Engineering & Construction and Toshiba Group, which will provide the 1,000MW ultra-supercritical steam turbine and generator for the plant, along with plant control systems and other equipment. Under the current engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract, MHPS will supply the facility’s ultra-supercritical-pressure boiler and the flue gas desulfurization (FGD) system.

The Cirebon facility already includes one 660MW operational coal-fired power system with one turbine generator and one steam turbine. The new unit is scheduled to begin commercial operations in 2022. Once operational, the expanded facility will supply power to Indonesia’s state-owned electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA).
